Avalanche Skill Training Course
AST1+
This course covers all the basics required by anyone traveling into the winter backcountry. You will learn the fundamental information and techniques of avalanches. Over the three days, this will include a study of the mechanics of avalanches, mountain safety and self-rescue, in both classroom and on-snow sessions.
Course content
Risk management, avalanche characteristics, avalanche terrain, terrain traps, avalanche
danger awareness, backcountry travel, search and rescue, accident examples.

Tomo is a ACMG ski and Hiking guide and 2016 service award CAA professional member based in Revelstoke B.C.. Since 2014, he has been involved with the CAA ITP Level 1 AvSAR course. In 2015, he became a Japanese representative and one of the working group members for Mountain Safety.info (MSi) in Switzerland. In addition, he translated the MSi avalanche search and rescue materials and current Mammut Barryvox, Barryvox S, and future Mammut Barryvox S2 interfaces and user manuals into Japanese.
He was also contracted to oversee the organized avalanche search and rescue for the Justice Institution of British Columbia in fall 2021.He worked as an avalanche assistant for Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure avalanche department, as a heli ski guide for Canadian Mountain Helicopter, as a ski patrol for Fernie and Revelstoke ski resorts. Currently, he focuses on lead-guide training for Selkirk Tangier Heli Ski and a course leader for Canadian Avalanche Association Level 1 course.
